Podcast #27 - Conversation with Elisa Miller-Out of Singlebrook Technology

Join me as I sit on the Ithaca Commons with Elisa Miller-Out, CEO of Singlebrook Technology, to discuss “B Corporations,” the local-first movement, globalization, and sustainability, in this latest conversation in our podcast series that uses only an iPhone for recording and editing.

02:00 Introduction of Elisa Miller-Out, CEO of Singlebrook Technology in Ithaca, New York.

04:58 Elisa says she is “naturally caffeinated.” Looking at her accomplishments and listening to her speak, you can easily pick up on her tremendous energy level. I, on the other hand, am struggling with giving up caffeine for a month.

06:14 What is Singlebrook, what do they do, and how long have they been in business? Some key words here: “Technology for change.”

09:30 What is a “B Corporation”? How does a company become one, and what are the standards and benefits, or is this just corporate “green-washing”?

Podcast #26 - Kevin Smith, reductionistic fat talk, and the social media bottom line

@Mouselink Podcast

00:11: I wonder if Kevin Smith has an opinion yet of the new Paul Thomas Anderson film, The Master. …

07:15: If you ask a business a question via social media, are they obligated to answer you back in a timely fashion? And what do you consider ‘timely’? Discussing @GreenStarCoOp and @CarriageHouseNY.

09:00: What is the healthiest oil with which to cook, and why do our discussions of fats and oils continue to be so reductionistic?

15:15: What is the ‘Social Media Bottom Line’? You say you’re not doing a very good job with your Facebook page, but how is your business doing?! Isn’t that what really matters?

24:00: I am going to give up all caffeine for the month of September. Follow my progress on Twitter at #OneMonthWithoutCoffee.

Podcast: Last year’s rant on social media disillusionment (in three parts)

Is the Web 2.0 bubble about to burst? Is the honeymoon over for social media? A special three-part conversation on technorealism and social media:

Pocast #12 - The Klout debacle

Part 1 of 3: Social media fatigue leads to a personal program of selectively culling my social media efforts.

Podcast #13 - Committing Facebook ‘suicide’

Part 2 of 3: More and more people I talk to are deleting everything from their Facebook, and deactivating their accounts. Are you one of them?

Podcast #14 - Quitting Foursquare, email, and more

Part 3 of 3: After all this time, Foursquare seems pointless, I HATE email, and too many businesses are failing in their social media.

Podcast: @Phoebience says to me, “You are the balloon string, and I am the balloon.”

#25 - The process is the goal of creating order

Here’s the most recent recording in our series of intimate conversations, recorded and edited with only an iPhone:

I sometimes feel that as soon as I put something in order, somebody else comes along and messes it up. This chaos and lack of control can lead to a feeling of despair when I don’t make the process the goal.

About a year ago I touched on similar ideas. How each item that’s added to the system of our lives increases complexity and the amount of energy required to maintain that system:

#5 - Chaos, complexity, sustainability, and despair

Listen to the new @mouselink podcast minimalist format - Recorded & edited entirely with an iPhone

#24 - Lance Armstrong persecution exposes hypocrisy

Lance Armstrong vs. Oscar Pistorius: Why is our acceptance of augmented humans so inconsistent? It’s ok for models and “The Blade Runner,” but Armstrong is a bad, bad man.

#23 - My life-long ‘battle’ with coffee. Also, older dads.

Does coffee work the same way that a homeopathic supposedly does? A little makes you feel good, but a lot can have the opposite effect. Also, what’s the quality of genetic material passed on from older dads to their kids?

#22 - Intro to new @mouselink podcast minimalist format

I have a tendency to make the creative process too difficult for myself, and this hurts my ability to be more prolific. When the message is what’s most important, the format and production shouldn’t get in the way.

The answer is sticking to a simplistic, non-traditional, short-form media creation process. I have to do my podcast more like I handle Instagram. The point of using an iPhone to generate content is that you can “whip it out” anywhere and start creating.

A Futurism Broadcast in Three Parts

Are you paying attention? Our planet is changing at an exponential rate. If you don’t know what dramatic changes might be coming in the next few years, how will you be prepared? Or will your adaptations come too late!?

Part 1 of 3: Humans tend to be stuck in the moment, technologically speaking. Instead, we should all be learning to think more “4th dimensionally.” In this episode, Matteo discusses linear progression vs. exponential curves, and why we cannot control whats happening to our planet.

Part 2 of 3: Matteo and Phoebience discuss the next generation of smartphones, 3D printing, cashless transactions, and intelligent glass.

Part 3 of 3: The future is important because we’re all going to be living there. Matteo and Phoebience discuss the technological Haves vs. the Have-Nots.
